Imperial requires TMUA for its Department of Computing, Department of Mathematics and BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science applicants.
Both October 2026 and January 2027 sittings are available. You take TMUA once in the cycle, even when several university choices use it.The required course groups
Computing and its named specialisms
The April 2026 UAT-UK list includes BEng Computing and MEng Computing, plus the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, International Programme of Study, Management and Finance, Security and Reliability, Software Engineering, and Visual Computing and Robotics routes.
Mathematics and joint Mathematics–Computing routes
The official list includes BSc and MSci Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, Mathematics with a Year Abroad, Applied Mathematics or Mathematical Physics, Mathematical Computation, Statistics, Statistics for Finance, and both Mathematics and Computer Science degrees.
Economics, Finance and Data Science
BSc Economics, Finance and Data Science is listed under TMUA with UCAS code L1N3. Do not assume that the word “economics” means every Imperial business programme uses the same test; the requirement belongs to the named course.
Dates and booking
Booking opens 20 July at 3pm and closes 28 September at 6pm UK time.
Booking opens 26 October at 3pm and closes 21 December at 6pm UK time.
Requests close 14 September for October and 7 December for January, both at 6pm UK time.
TMUA is restricted to the published dates in these locations.
Book early. Both UAT-UK and Imperial warn that preferred centres and appointment times depend on availability.
Does Imperial prefer October?
Imperial accepts either sitting for the listed courses. UAT-UK states that applicants to institutions other than the standard Cambridge and Oxford routes can decide when to sit and that there is no advantage to either session.
October can still be practically useful because its result is released earlier. January gives more preparation time but may overlap with school mocks and produces a result after the main UCAS deadline. Those are scheduling differences, not published Imperial score preferences.
What score do you need for Imperial?
Imperial's current central TMUA page does not publish one 2027 score that guarantees selection across Computing, Mathematics and EFDS. These programmes are highly competitive, but competitiveness is not the same as a confirmed cut-off.
Imperial has not published that as a universal 2027 requirement on its TMUA page.
No official Imperial policy found in the current guidance says the reported score is discounted because it came from January.
TMUA is an important academic measure, but applicants must still satisfy the full course requirements and selection process.
Use the official distribution for context rather than inventing certainty. Around 4.5 is typical across candidates and approximately 10% score higher than 7.0. The course's applicant pool may be stronger than the overall cohort, so even that context is not a promise.

Preparation priorities
The test is identical regardless of which Imperial department requires it. Do not search for a separate “Imperial TMUA syllabus”. Prepare the official Paper 1 mathematics and Paper 2 reasoning specification, then use full papers to develop selection and timing.

- Learn the Paper 2 logic language before relying on intuition.
- Practise no-calculator algebra until standard manipulation is reliable.
- Complete full 75-minute papers and record time spent per question.
- Review guessed answers even when they are correct.
