TMUA is compulsory for the listed Warwick Computer Science and Mathematics courses, subject to published contextual exceptions. It is optional or recommended for the listed Economics, Data Science, Statistics and MORSE routes.

Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics
Warwick states that all applicants to the named courses are required to take TMUA except applicants eligible for a contextual offer. The current contextual note still refers to 2026 information and is explicitly subject to change for 2027.
Mathematics
BSc Mathematics and MMath Mathematics applicants will typically be required to take TMUA or STEP, except for applicants eligible for the stated contextual route. TMUA is used in initial assessment; applicants planning STEP as the alternative should identify that intention in the application as Warwick directs.
Economics
TMUA is optional for BSc Economics, Economics and Management, and Economics, Politics and International Studies. Warwick says TMUA may be used as a factor for Economics L100 and that requirements are under review for 2027 entry.
Data Science, Statistics and MORSE
Warwick lists TMUA as optional for its named Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and MORSE programmes. Current guidance says most offers provide an additional-mathematics-test route involving 5.0 in TMUA or grade 2 in STEP, while applicants who do not take TMUA have other ways to meet an offer.

What score does Warwick want?
There is no single Warwick TMUA threshold covering all four groups. Warwick publishes different information for each.
- Computer Science: Warwick says the exact requirement will be set after results are received and will not be published in advance.
- Mathematics: Warwick reports that in the 2025-entry cycle, most offers went to applicants with 5.0 or above, while some applicants below 5.0 received offers after holistic assessment. That is historical context, not the final 2027 line.
- Statistics and MORSE: the current page describes 5.0 in TMUA or grade 2 in STEP as an additional-test route in most offers.
- Economics: requirements for 2027 are still under review on the live page.
October or January?
Warwick accepts either the October 2026 or January 2027 sitting and states there is no advantage to sitting first or second. It encourages October where possible because candidates have wider appointment availability. Only one TMUA result is accepted within the cycle.
October results arrive on 16 November 2026. January results arrive on 8 February 2027. Choose using readiness, test-centre availability and the demands of winter mocks, unless another university choice requires October.
How Warwick describes the role of the result
Required, optional and alternative routes begin differently.
The result supplies comparable mathematical evidence.
Grades, GCSEs and contextual indicators may also be considered.
Departments apply their own published process and timing.
For participating courses, results are automatically matched through UAT-UK and UCAS. Warwick says applicants do not need to send the result separately.
How to prepare
The Warwick course changes how the result is used, not the content of the test. Cover the official mathematics and logic, solve mixed questions, then complete full papers under 75-minute conditions. If you are considering STEP as an alternative Mathematics route, remember that STEP is a different examination with longer written solutions and a separate preparation demand.
Optional applicants should make a realistic decision early. A lightly prepared TMUA attempt is not automatically useful merely because the test is recommended.
